Gardening in March
The Tree Whisperer & Grounds Keeper
Groundskeeper Says
As soon as frosts are past, plant culinary herbs such as chives, cilantro, dill, mint, oregano, parsley, rosemary, and thyme in a sunny part of the garden.
Almost all plants, including annuals, perennials, trees, and lawns, will appreciate a boost of nitrogen now as spring growth starts, so feed with an all-purpose fertilizer.
Tree Whisperer Says
This is the last chance to prune citrus, ficus, and other sun-sensitive trees. Be careful. If you wait too long, new foliage will not have time to fill in before sun damage occurs. As a rule, any area of bark exposed to direct sun for 3 or 4 hours needs to be protected with a shade cloth or tree wrap to prevent sunscald.
