Recreation Club
Meeting January 16th
Recreation Club News
Happy New Year to everyone here at Delta Hawaii. May the New Year be prosperous for us all.
Our December dinner was another big success. We had over 100 plus residents in attendance with 6 take-outs. I was also told that the residents enjoyed the Natural Blend band, so we’ll invite them back again next year.
We have our kitchen staff to thank for another wonderful meal headed by our head chef, Jeanne Rau and her staff Gwen Horde, Linda Sharkey, Luvi Leon and Rio Rodriguez; unfortunately, our other kitchen member, Verble Bonton was not able to attend the dinner due to illness. Jim Coachman took a lot of wonderful pictures and the bar, manned by Pat Gridley, Diane Anderson and John Rinaudo, sold a lot of drinks. Of course, the holiday decorations were once again, a knock-ou thanks to Diane Curtain and her many volunteers.
Our Dec. 12th meeting with the police representatives was very informative. We served baked goods and coffee before and after the meeting and sent the representatives back with lots of baked goods for all the police officers; along with toys for their Toys for Tots collection. They were very appreciative.
Our scheduled Rec. Club dinners for the year 2018 are as follows: Feb 10th, April 21st, June 9th, Sept 8th, Nov 10th and Dec 8th. Be sure to mark these dates down on your calendar so that you don’t miss out on our wonderful meals.
On the months when we don’t have a dinner scheduled, there will be fund raisers put on by our affiliate club members, so be on the lookout for those events, beginning with soup and salad in January, which will be hosted by the Garden Club. Also on March 17th, Delta Diggs will be serving a dinner of corn beef and cabbage, and in June the Disaster Committee will serve their famous breakfast of eggs, sausage and pancakes. Last, but not least, they will have their all-you-can-eat spaghetti and green salad with garlic French bread in October. So, you can see there is something going on almost every month to entertain all of you. Typically, we take off July and August due to our severe summer season, otherwise, we are busy in the kitchen cooking up lots of good eats throughout the year.
The Rec. Cub and all it affiliates would like to express our thanks to the entire community for making our 2017/2018 New Year’s event so successful. We sould also like to say “thanks” to management for allowing us to clean-up the morning after the New Year’s event. That was a tremendous relief and helped us enjoy bringing in the New Year that much more.
Additional thanks go out to some wonderful people, namely, Alberta Alencastre, Louise Provins, Pat Gridley, Gwen Horde, Jeanne Rau, Fil Dalton, and Linda Sharkey. All these ladies baked enough goodies to enable my partner, Georgina Quinones and I to deliver 4 assorted platters of baked goods to each of the 3 fire stations accompanied by a card from the Delta Hawaii residents thanking them for their service to our community.
